Facilities at the Alcombe Children's Centre
The Children's centre was opened in 2005 and is a purpose-built development, created by
the government's Surestart initiative, to provide a range of services for local families.
Cheeky Cherubs day nursery opened in 1996 and was based in a large family house in Minehead. In April 2006 Cheeky Cherubs moved to the Alcombe Children’s Centre.
The nursery is divided into two areas with a main area for 0 – 2 year olds and another
area for 2 - 5 year olds.

The Main Play Area
Children are involved in a range of activities here. Art and craft activities, book sharing, writing activities, computing, role play, games, puzzles, construction and games. There is also an area
for
'messy' play with water, sand, paint, dough, clay etc. There is a quiet room which provides children a place where they can go if they want to have a rest or a sleep and it can also be used for small group activities.
Outdoors
In our large outdoor play area, we aim to mirror our inside
provision. In addition to those activities available indoors we
have some large climbing apparatus, ride-on toys, a trampoline
and a play house.
There are also opportunities for gardening
activities. In the summer we use several gazebos to provide
shade and the children can splash about in our paddling pool.
The Sensory Room
This room contains specialised equipment which stimulates the
children's sensory perception and also helps them to develop
physical skills.
The Baby Room
This room provides facilities for children under the age of two,
with a designated sleeping area, a 'snug', and a feeding area.
The sleep room is equipped with cots and low lighting to enable the children to sleep and can also be used by the older children. The baby room conatains similar features t the main play area,
as well as a baby gym which allows the children to develop their physical
skills. Once the babies become mobile and toddling
they are
able to access the facilities of the over twos area.
The nursery is equipped with purpose built toilets that have low level toilets and sinks with thermostatically controlled water.
The Family Room
Being part of the children’s centre we are also able to access the family room and the training rooms. The family room is separate from the main nursery and is used to host
the After School Club and Holiday Fun Club.
